VIEWING : SSBBT3 was very challenging to format for Kindle due to the 800 or so illustrations and extensive layout and caption changes required. We've tested the output on an old Kindle 2, Kindle PC, Kindle Fire, and Kindle's Blackberry app. The Fire was the winner with our testers. Some images are difficult to see well on the Kindle 2 and the tiny Blackberry screen, but viewing these on full-screen applications (or reference to a hardcopy of the text) should have every user covered.
NAVIGATION : The kindle version contains a normal table of Contents that corresponds to the print version, but fully linked. We've also included a separate organization for use in the gym, "In the Gym: Quick Reference". There is a difference between Exercise and Training. Exercise is physical activity for its own sake, a workout done for the effect it produces today, during the workout or right after you're through. Training is physical activity done with a longer-term goal in mind, the constituent workouts of which are specifically designed to produce that goal. Training is how athletes prepare to win, and how all motivated people approach physical preparation.
Practical Programming for Strength Training 3rd Edition addresses the topic of Training. It details the mechanics of the process, from the basic physiology of adaptation to the specific programs that apply these principles to novice, intermediate, and advanced lifters.

The large number of tables in this book required extensive reformatting and alternate displays as different Kindle devices handle tables and css differently (or not at all). The Kindle 1 *does not recognize tables* and is unsuitable for viewing this book. Early Kindle 2 devices and paperwhite DX display tables, but with limited formatting. Our tables are simple, but the output is less nice than on newer Kindle e-ink, all Kindle Fires, and Kindle apps (PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, Android).
Tables are reflowable content and will stretch and compress and break onto additional pages based on the screen display dimensions and font size. Because of this, the larger tables are best viewed on larger screens and/or screens that can rapidly switch between portrait and landscape modes.
Devices tested directly: Kindle 2 (oldest type), Kindle Fire.
Apps tested: Kindle for PC, Kindle for Android (tested on Galaxy Note 2), Kindle for iPhone, Kindle for iPad
Kindle Previewer: Amazon's emulator was used to screen Kindle e-ink and Fire and OS. The emulator is not as reliable as using actual devices, but we tried it anyway in hopes of detecting strange behaviour and to help find the best compromise across groups of devices.

Mean Ol Mr. Gravity is a compilation of Q&A posts from Mark Rippetoe's StrengthMill forum (now Starting Strength forums). Edited for brevity, efficiency, clarity, accuracy, and taste (in a loose sense, sorry), Mean Ol' Mr. Gravity adds to the information available in Starting Strength: Basic Barbell Training and Practical Programming for Strength Training by tailoring it to the individual through his responses to questions posed by actual humans regarding their own training. It preserves the coarseness, humor, and candor that have become Rip s trademark style.

There are lots of things about weight training in general and barbell exercise in particular that can only be learned by spending way too many hours in the gym. And honestly, unless you're a gym owner, this is a really weird way to spend 75 hours a week. Mark Rippetoe has been in the fitness industry since 1978 and has owned a black-iron gym since 1984. He knows things about lifting weights and training for performance that most other coaches and professionals have never had the chance to learn.
