I originally found this book back in 2000 while looking for a way to get bigger and stronger for football. What I got was really an encyclopedia of knowledge on strength and health. Looking through the book today it amazes me how pertinent much of the information still is roughly thirty-five years after its original printing. Simply put, this is the best book I have found in regards to planning strength training routines for athletes of all levels. Mark Rippetoe and Dr. Kilgore have a knack for making the complexities of programming easily digestible to the average reader. The problem with most texts in this field is that they do a better job of confusing the reader than educating them. Not this book. Over the past ten years or so I have read just about anything and everything related to training that I could get my hands on. A few years ago while searching the internet for a new copy of "The Strongest Shall Survive" I stumbled across The Aasgaard Company and Starting Strength. Luckily I decided to purchase the book.
